A lady in a circus

Monday, October 10th, 2005

Sometimes, a lady in a circus where everyone pretends, or should I say, plays a part, feels that her mouth is filled with gasoline that she badly needs to spit it out and produce a fire for her act to be worthwhile. Otherwise, she’ll kill herself and end her role in the circus stage.

Endearing????

For the girl who’s name sounds so endearing but who deserves a rather filthy one…

Someday, the wind may begin to move the leaves of the trees, tear them apart from where they’re clinging to and slap it to your face.

Someday, the wind may be at its wildest. It will lift the dust and fling it to your face, filling your eyes until it will have no space left for it to stay.

From there, you’ll shout out loud. Scream with all your might. Hurt the one who will cause you that. You’ll turn to the wind. Curl your hands into tight (very tight) fists. Aiming at it, you’ll strike it with all your might…only to receive the worst fall that will be made out of your doing.

Then, you’ll cry. You’ll cry to yourself because no one will be there. It will be just you. Only you.

You’ll blame yourself, but you’ll realize that you can’t bring back the past anymore. You just live up the present and look forward to a frightening and uncertain future. It will be very unfortunate and it will frustrate you further….Argh! Poor you.

Someday….

Someday….

Someday….

Someday, you may realize some worthwhile thoughts and will thank sincerely the wind, especially the aching voice that hummed to the wind and made it move. It may not be now, but it will be in time. Believe me.

Painstakingly Numb

She hugged him tightly, wishing that he, too, would hug her. But his hands remained on his side. His gaze focused steadily on what lay at her back.

She looked at him and slowly raised her hand to caress his face. Her hands were trembling due to shame, especially fear. The fear that started to overwhelm her. Her thumb starts to touch his brows. Then, it slid down to the bridge of his nose. It continued to trail to his lips. The lips that had kissed her passionately during their days. When still she got no attention from him, she put down her hand resignly.

He just stood there, staring right through her. Seeming to see nothing. Not even aware of what was happening.

She mustered all her strength to see him behave like that. Just because of the mistake she made—cut off the communication they had and never explained the reasons—everything was screwed!

Though her knees seemed weak and her feet were a bit wobbly, she tried hard to keep standing. She hugged him again, even tighter that time. He gently, pushed her away from him, but she linked her fingers at his back and refused to be pushed back.

"Baby!" someone called out.

She went cold all over. The voice sounded familiar! She slowly turned around, afraid to confirm that the voice belong to the man she wished wouldn’t be there.

When she got to see him, she wasn’t surprised to know who it was. Rather, she was surprised of his reaction. He stared at her, then to the guy beside her and back to her again. He clenched his fist, gritted his teeth and tears threatened to fall. Before she could explain, he ran from that place. She called out his name as she ran after him. Unfortunately, it was too late to catch up after him because he hailed a cab and it ran off like hell.

Her eyes followed the cab until it was out of her sight. With her chest heaving, she fell on her knees on the cemented covered walk with stones and pieces of sharp metals on it. She sat there and hugged her knees. She cried and sobs began to attack her.

After some time, she held on to the post, supported herself and stood. She walked toward where he stood when she left him. She was astonished to see him there, standing and looking at her with a blank expression. She ran toward him, willing him to comfort her. But before she reached him, he went to his car and went off.

Tears blurred her vision, but she continued to run. She ran not knowing where to go. She lied on the filthy and muddy ground, feeling nothing. She wasn’t tired. Neither was she hurt nor dead. She was alive, but she was painstakingly numb….
